As of 2010, Arapahoe County was the third most populous county in the state of Colorado. It is long and narrow, spanning an area 72 miles from east to west but only from 4 to 12 miles from north to south. The majority of the population is located in the western-most quarter of the county in the Denver Metro area.

The county seat of Arapahoe County is Littleton, Colorado. Other major cities in the western portion of Arapahoe County are Aurora (the largest in the county), Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, Englewood, Glendale, Greenwood Village, and Sheridan.
